Because Tso Moriri is a geographical feature rather than a traditional city, its "population" refers to the residents of Korzok village and the nomadic Changpa families who camp in the surrounding plateau. The total population fluctuates with the seasons but is estimated at around 1,000 to 1,500 individuals.
The community is almost entirely of Tibetan-Ladakhi descent, and Tibetan Buddhism is the predominant religion, profoundly influencing the daily life, culture, and architecture of the area. The primary language spoken is a localized dialect of Ladakhi (Bhoti). Due to the remote location, educational and employment opportunities are limited, and income is heavily tied to traditional pastoralism and, increasingly, seasonal tourism.
