Transportation

Thiksey is highly accessible by Ladakhi standards, primarily because it sits directly on the Leh-Manali Highway (NH3). The village is about a 30-to-40-minute drive from Leh (19 km away).

Public transportation consists of frequent local buses and shared taxis (often minivans) that ply the route between Leh and nearby villages. For broader connectivity, the nearest airport is the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, which offers daily flights to New Delhi and other major Indian cities. There is no railway network in Ladakh. Within Thiksey itself, walking is the most common mode of transit, supplemented by bicycles and private motorcycles or cars.
