Parks & nature

While Thiksey does not feature formal urban parks, it is situated within the dramatic, high-altitude cold desert landscape of the Ladakh range.

* **Flora and Fauna:** Vegetation is sparse and precious, mostly concentrated around water sources where willow and poplar trees thrive. * **Hemis National Park:** Located a short distance away across the Indus River, this national park is globally renowned for its population of elusive snow leopards, as well as Tibetan wolves, Eurasian brown bears, and blue sheep (bharal). * **Bird Watching:** The nearby riverbanks and marshy patches attract migratory birds, making the summer months ideal for ornithologists.
