Infrastructure

Thiksey's infrastructure has improved significantly over the past two decades but still faces challenges related to its extreme geography. Electricity is provided by the regional grid, though power outages are common, especially in winter; consequently, many homes and the monastery rely heavily on solar panels to harness the region's abundant sunlight.

Water is sourced primarily from glacial streams and, increasingly, borewells. Sanitation relies largely on traditional Ladakhi dry composting toilets, which are highly ecological and suited for freezing temperatures, though modern flush toilets are becoming standard in tourist accommodations. Telecommunications have improved, with cellular networks (BSNL, Jio, Airtel) providing 4G internet access, though speeds can fluctuate.
