Rivers, lakes & waterways

The valley is defined by its dramatic, braided river systems fed by the massive surrounding glaciers of the Karakoram range. * **Shyok River**: Translating to the "River of Death" in Yarkandi, it originates from the Rimo Glacier and carves a wide, incredibly scenic basin through the valley. * **Nubra River**: Also known as the Siachen River, it originates directly from the Siachen Glacier and merges with the Shyok River near Diskit. * **Yarab Tso**: A hidden, sacred high-altitude lake located near Sumur village. It is deeply revered by locals, and washing or swimming in its crystal-clear waters is strictly prohibited.
