Administratively, Nubra Valley is a sub-division (Tehsil) of the Leh district in the Union Territory of Ladakh. It does not have a municipal city government; instead, local governance is managed through the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh.
The LAHDC is an elected body that oversees rural development, health, education, and public works. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), based in Diskit, is the chief administrative officer representing the district administration. At the grassroots level, villages are governed by *Panchayats* (village councils) headed by a Sarpanch.
Given the valley's sensitive location near the borders of Pakistan and China, the Indian Armed Forces have a massive and highly visible presence. The military plays a de facto role in regional infrastructure, maintaining the roads (via the Border Roads Organization) and providing emergency medical and disaster relief services to civilians.
