The city of Kargil is situated along the banks of the **Suru River**, a major tributary of the Indus River. The Suru originates from the Panzella glacier and provides crucial irrigation for the region's agriculture, defining the green corridors of the city. Other significant waterways in the district include the **Dras River** and the **Wakha Chu**. These glacial rivers are characterized by their freezing, fast-flowing waters and pristine blue-gray hues.
