Infrastructure in Hemis is basic but has seen steady improvements in recent years.
Electricity is supplied to the village and monastery, though historically subject to outages, particularly in winter. This is increasingly being supplemented by localized solar power installations, which take advantage of the region's high number of sunny days.
Water is sourced directly from mountain streams and glacial melt. While traditional dry composting toilets are still common and well-suited to the freezing environment, modern plumbing and heated water are becoming more available in guesthouses.
Telecommunications are spotty. State-owned BSNL provides some cellular coverage, and basic internet access is available at the monastery and select guesthouses, but high-speed broadband remains largely confined to the district capital of Leh.
