Diskit experiences a cold desert climate (Köppen climate classification: BWk). Due to its high altitude and location in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, the region receives very little annual precipitation, with most moisture falling as winter snow.
Winters (November to March) are bitterly cold and harsh, with temperatures frequently dropping between -10°C and -20°C (14°F to -4°F). During this time, the town is often isolated due to heavy snowfall blocking the Khardung La pass. Summers (May to September) are highly pleasant and constitute the peak tourist season. Daytime temperatures range from a comfortable 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), though nights remain brisk. The intense high-altitude sun means visitors can experience a sunburn and a chill simultaneously.
The best time to visit is between June and September, when the weather is mildest and the roads are fully accessible.
