Housing in Diskit reflects a transition between deep-rooted tradition and rapid modernization. The older parts of the village feature classic Ladakhi architecture: multi-story homes built from sun-dried mud bricks, stone, and poplar wood, featuring flat roofs used for drying apricots and fodder.
With the boom in tourism, many families have expanded their traditional homes to create homestays. Alongside these, there has been a surge in modern concrete construction for hotels and larger guesthouses along the main roads. Real estate is primarily ancestral, and property sales outside of the local community are restricted. Affordable housing is generally self-built by families, though the cost of imported construction materials (cement, glass) can be quite high due to the transportation costs over the mountain passes.
