The topography of Mysuru is predominantly an undulating plain, characteristic of the southern Deccan Plateau. The elevation of the city proper averages about 767 meters (2,516 feet) above sea level, providing a natural slope that aids in city drainage.
The most striking topographical feature is the Chamundi Hills, an elevated ridge flanking the southeastern edge of the city. The highest peak of the hills reaches approximately 1,048 meters (3,438 feet). The land slopes gently downwards from these hills toward the north and the river valleys, creating a natural drainage pattern that feeds the region's agricultural lands and urban lakes.
