Economy

Mysuru's economy has transitioned from a traditional agrarian and cottage-industry base to a diverse modern economy, though heritage industries remain highly relevant. It serves as a major economic hub for southern Karnataka. The cost of living is noticeably lower than in neighboring Bengaluru, making it an attractive destination for retirees, students, and increasingly, IT professionals.

Tourism is a massive economic driver, directly and indirectly employing a significant portion of the populace. In recent decades, the Information Technology sector has become a major contributor to the local GDP. Infosys operates one of the world's largest corporate training facilities in the city, alongside campuses for Wipro, L&T, and other tech firms. Additionally, retail, healthcare, and traditional manufacturing (silk, sandalwood, and handicrafts) provide substantial economic stability.
