Government

Civic administration in Bengaluru is managed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the municipal corporation responsible for infrastructural development, solid waste management, and public health. The BBMP is headed by a Mayor (historically a one-year ceremonial post) and a Chief Commissioner (an IAS officer appointed by the state government who holds executive power). The city is divided into multiple zones and over 200 wards, each represented by an elected corporator.

Urban planning and land use are regulated by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA). As the capital of Karnataka, Bengaluru is home to the Vidhana Soudha, the seat of the state legislature, and houses the offices of the Chief Minister and the Governor. Law and order are maintained by the Bengaluru City Police, headed by a Police Commissioner.
