Government

Jamshedpur features a highly unique governance model for an Indian city. Unlike most large cities that are entirely governed by an elected Municipal Corporation, the core of Jamshedpur is administered as a Notified Area (the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, or JNAC). The civic amenities within the Tata leasehold area are primarily managed and maintained by Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited (formerly JUSCO), a subsidiary of Tata Steel.

Surrounding areas within the urban agglomeration have their own civic bodies, such as the Mango Municipal Corporation and the Jugsalai Municipal Council. Politically, the city is represented in the Lok Sabha (the lower house of India's Parliament) by the Jamshedpur constituency, and it is divided into several assembly constituencies for the Jharkhand state legislature.
