Given its status as a densely populated industrial city, agriculture is practically nonexistent within the core urban limits of Jamshedpur. However, in the rural hinterlands of the surrounding East Singhbhum district, agriculture plays a vital role for local communities. The primary crop is paddy (rice), heavily dependent on monsoon rains. Farmers also cultivate maize, pulses, and a variety of seasonal vegetables to supply the city's markets. Additionally, local fisheries in the Subarnarekha river and surrounding ponds, along with poultry farming, contribute to the local food supply chain.
