Dhanbad features a transitional climate between a humid subtropical (Köppen: Cwa) and a tropical wet-and-dry climate. The city experiences three primary seasons: summer, monsoon, and winter.
Summers (March to mid-June) are typically hot and dry, with daytime temperatures frequently soaring between 35°C and 42°C (95°F–108°F), occasionally reaching up to 45°C during peak heatwaves. The monsoon season arrives in late June and lasts until September, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall that cools the region but significantly raises humidity levels. Winters (November to February) are pleasant and crisp, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 22°C (50°F–72°F). The most comfortable time to visit is during the winter months, between October and March.
