At the district level, the administration is overseen by the Deputy Commissioner (DC), representing the state government of Jharkhand. Dhanbad is a key political constituency, sending representatives to the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) and one Member of Parliament (MP) to the Lok Sabha (the lower house of India's Parliament).
