Population

According to the 2011 Census of India, the population of the Solan municipal council area was 39,256. However, rapid urbanization and the recent expansion of the city limits to form a Municipal Corporation have pushed the estimated current population well over 50,000.

Solan has a diverse population comprising native Himachalis (Pahari speakers), Punjabis, and a large transient demographic of students and professionals from across India. The gender ratio in the district historically hovers around 880-900 females per 1,000 males, a metric the government has been actively working to improve. Hinduism is the dominant religion, with active Sikh, Muslim, and Christian minority communities. Literacy rates are high, typically exceeding 85%, largely due to the dense concentration of educational institutions in the region.
