Located in the Shivalik range of the Himalayas, Solan's geography is characterized by rolling hills, terraced slopes, and deep ravines. The city sits at an average elevation of 1,550 meters (5,090 feet) above sea level, providing it with panoramic views of the surrounding mountainous terrain.
The landscape is dotted with dense forests of pine, oak, and deodar trees, though urban expansion has reduced some of the immediate tree cover within city limits. The region is rich in flora and fauna, supported by a network of seasonal streams and the nearby Ashwani Khadd river, which winds through the lower valleys. Geologically, the area is situated in a seismically active zone, typical of the younger Himalayan mountain ranges.
