Navigating McLeod Ganj is famously challenging due to its narrow, winding mountain roads and heavy seasonal traffic. Walking is the most practical and common mode of transport within the town center and to nearby villages like Bhagsu and Dharamkot. Local transport includes shared auto-rickshaws and a fleet of local taxis.
For connectivity, a local bus stand in the main square provides daily state and private bus services to major cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. The nearest broad-gauge railway station is in Pathankot (approx. 90 km away). The closest airport is Kangra Airport at Gaggal (approx. 20 km away), offering daily flights to Delhi. In recent years, to alleviate the severe traffic bottlenecks on the steep road up from Dharamshala, the government inaugurated the Dharamshala Skyway, a modern 1.8-kilometer aerial ropeway that transports visitors from lower Dharamshala to McLeod Ganj in just 5 minutes.
