Population

Because McLeod Ganj is an administrative ward/suburb of the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation, exact standalone census figures are difficult to isolate, but the immediate local population is estimated to be around 11,000 to 15,000 residents. The demographic makeup is highly unique for India. It comprises a significant Tibetan refugee population, the indigenous Gaddi community, Himachali locals, and a large number of transient international visitors, expatriates, and spiritual students. The religious composition is predominantly Buddhist and Hindu. Tibetan, Hindi, and English are the most widely spoken languages. Education levels within the Tibetan community are notably high due to the comprehensive network of the Tibetan Children's Villages (TCV) schools. The local economy supports a mixed-income demographic, primarily sustained by tourism and commerce.
