Agriculture

Due to the steep, rocky topography and dense urbanization of the McLeod Ganj ridge, there is virtually no large-scale agriculture within the town itself. The local food supply relies heavily on produce transported up from the lower Kangra Valley and the plains of Punjab. In the broader Dharamshala and Kangra regions, agriculture is prominent, featuring terraced farming of wheat, rice, maize, and mustard. The Kangra Valley is also famous for Kangra tea, a geographically indicated (GI) orthodox tea grown in sprawling estates at slightly lower elevations.
