However, this number heavily misrepresents the actual human footprint, as Manali has a massive "floating population" of tourists, seasonal workers, and hoteliers that can swell the town's daily population to tens of thousands during peak seasons.
The ethnic composition is predominantly Himachali, though there is a significant Tibetan and Nepali community, alongside migrants from other Indian states working in the hospitality sector. Hinduism is the majority religion, deeply intertwined with local shamanistic practices and the worship of village deities (Devtas). Buddhism is the second most prominent religion, reflecting the Tibetan influence. The primary languages spoken are Kulluvi (a Pahari language), Hindi, and English, with Tibetan commonly spoken in the monasteries and refugee settlements.
