Kullu is a gateway to some of the Himalayas' most pristine protected areas.

* **Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP):** A UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Kullu District. It protects over 1,171 sq km of alpine meadows, riverine forests, and snow-clad peaks. It is a haven for the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan brown bear, and the vibrant western tragopan. * **Kais Wildlife Sanctuary:** A beautiful reserve close to the town, offering dense forests of pine, oak, and deodar, and providing habitat for barking deer and monal pheasants. * **Nature Trails:** The hills immediately surrounding the city are woven with walking trails that lead through cedar forests and apple orchards.
