Rivers, lakes & waterways

Waterways are the literal carving forces of Kinnaur's dramatic geography.

* **Sutlej River:** The primary river of the district, the Sutlej enters India from Tibet and violently carves its way through the mighty Himalayas, creating deep, treacherous, and awe-inspiring gorges. * **Baspa River:** A major tributary of the Sutlej, the Baspa flows through the Sangla Valley. It is relatively calmer in sections, flanked by green pastures and villages, making it a focal point for tourism. * **Spiti River:** Meets the Sutlej at **Khab**, a spectacular confluence point where the muddy waters of the Spiti mix with the blue-green Sutlej. * **Nako Lake:** A revered high-altitude lake surrounded by willow and poplar trees, serving as the cultural and visual centerpiece of Nako village.
