The primary artery is National Highway 5 (NH-5), which follows the alignment of the historic Hindustan-Tibet Road. This highway is carved directly into sheer cliff faces (the "half-tunnel" roads are legendary) and requires constant maintenance by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) due to frequent landslides and rockfalls.
Public transportation is robustly handled by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC), which operates buses connecting Reckong Peo to Shimla, Chandigarh, Delhi, and remote upper villages.
There is no railway network or commercial airport within Kinnaur. The nearest broad-gauge railway station is in Kalka, and the closest airport is in Jubbarhatti (Shimla), though most travelers fly into Chandigarh and drive. Within the villages, walking trails and trekking routes remain vital for local mobility and herding.
