Government

Kinnaur is governed under the standard district administration model of India. The head of the district is the Deputy Commissioner (DC), an officer from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), who operates out of the district headquarters in Reckong Peo. The DC is responsible for law and order, revenue collection, and the implementation of state and central government schemes.

Politically, Kinnaur constitutes a single legislative assembly constituency, electing one Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) to the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha. At the national level, Kinnaur is part of the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency. Local governance at the village level is managed through the Panchayati Raj system, empowering village councils (Gram Panchayats) to make decisions regarding local infrastructure, water, and sanitation.
