While largely overshadowed by tourism, agriculture remains a traditional livelihood for many native families in the broader Parvati Valley. The steep terrain limits large-scale farming, so locals utilize terraced farming techniques.
Key crops include maize, wheat, and pulses. Horticulture is also significant, with orchards producing apples, plums, and apricots. Livestock rearing, primarily sheep and goats, is a historical practice for wool and meat. Historically, the region is also known for the cultivation of hemp, which grows wild in the valley, though the government has strict regulations and periodic eradication campaigns regarding narcotic production.
