Basic infrastructure in Dharamshala is robust but heavily tested by extreme monsoon weather and surging tourist populations. Electricity is provided by the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) and is generally reliable, though storms can cause outages. Water supply relies on natural mountain springs and streams, managed by the local Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) department.
As part of the Smart City initiative, Dharamshala has seen significant upgrades to its infrastructure, including the installation of solar-powered streetlights, underground waste bins, and public Wi-Fi zones. Cellular connectivity is excellent across the major networks (Jio, Airtel), and high-speed fiber broadband is readily available in most neighborhoods.
