### Future Development
Chamba is balancing its ancient heritage with modern infrastructural needs. The focus is primarily on eco-tourism and connectivity.
* **Infrastructure & Connectivity**: Significant investments are being made to widen and stabilize the Pathankot-Chamba National Highway (NH 154A) to reduce travel time and minimize landslide disruptions. * **Tourism Development**: Under various state and central tourism schemes (like Swadesh Darshan), funds are allocated for the beautification of heritage sites, including the Chaugan, Rang Mahal, and ancient temples, to attract global tourists. * **Hydropower Expansion**: The Chamba district continues to be a focal point for run-of-the-river hydroelectric projects, which provide a substantial portion of the state's revenue. Future projects aim to minimize ecological impact. * **GI Tag Promotion**: Plans are in motion to establish better commercial platforms and export channels for local artisans producing the GI-tagged Chamba Rumal and Chamba Chappal. * **Medical Infrastructure**: Upgrades to the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College (Pt. JLNGMC) are ongoing to provide advanced healthcare facilities locally, reducing the need to travel to Kangra or Punjab for emergencies.
