Chamba is famous for its vibrant, centuries-old festivals. * **Minjar Mela:** Chamba's most famous event, an international-level fair held in July/August. It celebrates the blooming of maize (*minjar*) and involves a massive procession, traditional music, and the symbolic immersion of maize shoots into the Ravi River to pray for good rain and harvest. * **Sui Mata Festival:** Held in April, this festival honors Queen Sunayana, who according to legend, sacrificed herself to bring a water supply to the town. It is primarily attended by women and children who sing folk songs in her praise. * **Navratri and Diwali:** Celebrated with extensive decorations, cultural programs, and community gatherings at the local temples and the Chaugan.
