Government

The civic administration of the city is managed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The AMC is responsible for public infrastructure, health, transport, and city planning.

* **Executive Branch:** Governed by the Municipal Commissioner, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer appointed by the state government, who holds executive power. * **Legislative Branch:** Consists of elected corporators from various wards, headed by the Mayor, whose role is largely ceremonial. * **Urban Development:** The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) oversees planning and development in the peripheral areas stretching beyond the AMC limits.

Law enforcement is handled by the Ahmedabad City Police, led by the Commissioner of Police. As the state’s largest city, it is a crucial political battleground and sends significant representation to both the Gujarat Legislative Assembly and the national Parliament (Lok Sabha).
