Agriculture

While agriculture is essentially non-existent within the urban municipal limits, Ahmedabad serves as a critical processing, trading, and logistics hub for the agricultural produce of the surrounding district and the wider state.

The rural hinterlands of the Ahmedabad district primarily cultivate cash crops such as cotton and castor, alongside food crops like cumin, wheat, and pearl millet (bajra). The city hosts numerous agro-processing units, including cotton spinning mills, edible oil refineries, and spice packaging plants.

In recent years, the region has also seen a growing interest in organic farming and dairy production. Organizations like Amul have a massive supply-chain presence in and around the city, securing the dairy needs of millions of residents.
