Economy

The economy of New Delhi is highly robust, heavily dominated by the tertiary (services) sector. As the seat of the federal government, public administration, defense, and government-backed institutional work form a massive cornerstone of local employment.

In recent decades, New Delhi has also become a major commercial and financial center in South Asia. Connaught Place, one of the primary commercial hubs, consistently ranks among the most expensive office markets in the world. The city's per capita income is notably higher than the national average. While the cost of living—particularly housing—is exceptionally high within New Delhi proper, the strong economic environment continues to attract a vast influx of professionals from across the country.
