Silvassa is administered by the Union Government of India. In 2020, the Union Territories of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli were merged into a single territory. The President of India appoints an Administrator to govern the territory, with the administrative headquarters for the Dadra and Nagar Haveli district situated in Silvassa.
At the local civic level, the city is governed by the Silvassa Municipal Council (SMC), which oversees urban planning, sanitation, water supply, and local infrastructure. The region also elects one representative to the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Indian Parliament) from the Dadra and Nagar Haveli constituency.
