Economy

Silvassa’s economy is fundamentally rooted in manufacturing and industry. For decades, the region benefited from central government tax incentives (such as exemptions on excise duty and sales tax), which attracted hundreds of large and medium-scale industries. Although the GST (Goods and Services Tax) regime has leveled the playing field across India, Silvassa remains a highly competitive manufacturing hub due to its established infrastructure and proximity to commercial centers like Mumbai and Surat.

Tourism is the second pillar of the local economy. The city's tribal museums, Portuguese-era churches, meticulously maintained gardens (like the Vanganga Lake Garden), and proximity to wildlife sanctuaries draw thousands of weekend tourists from neighboring states.
