Daman's environment is characterized by its coastal ecology and the estuary of the Daman Ganga River.
* **Air Quality:** Generally ranges from "Good" to "Moderate." However, it is heavily influenced by the wind carrying emissions from the massive industrial estate in neighboring Vapi (Gujarat). * **Water Quality:** The Daman Ganga river has historically faced severe pollution issues due to industrial effluent discharge upstream. Efforts by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) have been ongoing to mitigate this. * **Protected Areas:** The region features coastal stretches lined with Casuarina trees. While not a massive wildlife sanctuary, local mangroves and coastal ecosystems are protected under coastal regulation zones (CRZ). * **Sustainability & Cleanliness:** The local administration frequently organizes beach clean-up drives. Recent beautification projects on the Devka and Jampore beaches have included the installation of solar lighting and better waste disposal bins.
