Topography

The topography of Rajnandgaon city is generally flat and uniform, with an average elevation of approximately 307 meters (1,007 feet) above sea level. This flat terrain is highly conducive to agriculture and urban development.

The land features gentle, almost imperceptible slopes that facilitate drainage toward the Shivnath River basin to the east and north. There are no major mountains, deep canyons, or high plateaus within the city limits. Instead, the urban landscape is punctuated by several large, man-made and natural lakes (talabs) that were historically constructed to manage water supply and irrigation.
