Rajnandgaon is administered by the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam), which is responsible for civic infrastructure, sanitation, water supply, and local urban planning. The corporation is headed by a Mayor, elected directly by the public, while an appointed Municipal Commissioner (usually a state civil service or IAS officer) oversees executive operations.
The city is divided into numerous electoral wards, each represented by an elected Corporator. At the state and national levels, Rajnandgaon is a key political constituency. It elects a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) to the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha and serves as the headquarters for the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency, electing a Member of Parliament (MP) to the national government. The city also hosts the district collectorate, district courts, and regional police headquarters.
