Weather & climate

Mahasamund experiences a tropical wet and dry climate (Köppen climate classification *Aw*), characterized by three distinct seasons: summer, monsoon, and winter.

Summers (April to June) are typically hot and dry, with daytime peak temperatures frequently reaching between 40°C and 45°C (104°F to 113°F). The monsoon season (July to September) brings significant relief and heavy rainfall, primarily from the southwest monsoon. The district receives an average annual rainfall of around 1,200 mm, which is vital for the local rice crops.

Winters (November to February) are mild, pleasant, and dry, with average minimum temperatures dropping to around 12°C to 15°C (53°F to 59°F). This cool, comfortable period is widely considered the best time to visit Mahasamund and its nearby historical attractions.
