Geography

Located in the north-central part of Chhattisgarh, Korba sits in the fertile and resource-rich basin of the Hasdeo River, a major tributary of the Mahanadi. The city is bisected by the Hasdeo and its smaller tributary, the Ahiran.

While the urban and industrial zones dominate the immediate cityscape, the broader geographic footprint of the district is remarkably green. The region is heavily forested, featuring rich biodiversity and acting as a transition zone between the plains of central Chhattisgarh and the elevated plateaus to the north. Beneath the soil lies the true geographic wealth of Korba: the immense Gondwana coalfields, which dictate much of the area's land use.
