Dhamtari is administered by the Dhamtari Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam), which oversees city planning, sanitation, water supply, and local infrastructure. The corporation is divided into various wards, each represented by an elected Corporator (Parshad), with a Mayor serving as the political head of the city.
As a district headquarters, the city also hosts the District Collectorate and the office of the Superintendent of Police, managing the administrative and law-and-order functions of the entire Dhamtari district. Politically, Dhamtari is an assembly constituency in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly and falls under the Mahasamund Lok Sabha constituency for national parliamentary representation.
