Geography

Sector 17 is located in the geographical center of Chandigarh, situated on the flat, fertile plains of the Punjab region near the foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas. The physical geography of the sector itself is completely urbanized, characterized by wide, grid-iron roads bordering the perimeter and vast, paved pedestrian plazas in the interior.

Le Corbusier's design ensured that despite being a commercial concrete hub, the sector is heavily integrated with nature. Large native trees provide a canopy over the walking paths, and expansive concrete planters and water features break up the paved terrain. The sector sits between Madhya Marg to the north and Udyog Path to the south, two of the city's major arterial roads.
