The infrastructure of the Rock Garden is a blend of municipal utilities and ingenious DIY engineering. The site is equipped with public restrooms, drinking water stations, and extensive pedestrian walkways.
A complex, hidden network of water pumps and pipes draws and circulates water to sustain the garden's famous artificial waterfalls. Electricity is wired throughout the site to power these pumps and to provide atmospheric lighting for evening events in the amphitheater. The structural infrastructure—retaining walls, pathways, and archways—is remarkably built from a mixture of concrete and recycled industrial slag.
