Historically, Manimajra was an agricultural estate relying on the fertile soils of the Indo-Gangetic plains to grow wheat, mustard, and fodder. Today, due to rapid and extensive urbanization under the Chandigarh administration, agriculture has been almost entirely phased out. The land has been converted into residential complexes, commercial markets, and infrastructure.
