Weather & climate

Patna experiences a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification: *Cwa*), characterized by three distinct seasons: a scorching summer, a heavy monsoon, and a mild winter.

Summers begin in late March and peak in May and June, with temperatures frequently soaring above 40°C (104°F) accompanied by dry, hot winds known locally as 'Loo'. The monsoon arrives by late June and lasts through September, bringing heavy rainfall, high humidity, and lush greenery, but also the risk of urban waterlogging. The city receives an average annual rainfall of about 1,100 mm.

Winters (November to February) are highly pleasant and represent the best time to visit Patna. Days are sunny and cool, with average temperatures ranging between 9°C to 25°C (48°F to 77°F). Frost is extremely rare, and the city receives no snowfall. Natural disasters are generally limited to seasonal flooding and occasional heatwaves.
