Tinsukia is governed locally by the Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB), which is responsible for civic administration, sanitation, water supply, and urban planning. The city is divided into multiple municipal wards, each electing a ward commissioner.
As the administrative headquarters of the Tinsukia District, the city hosts the offices of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP), who oversee district-wide revenue, administration, and law enforcement on behalf of the Assam state government. Politically, Tinsukia constitutes a constituency in the Assam Legislative Assembly and falls under the broader Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of the region.
