Topography

The topography of Tezpur is predominantly a flat riverine floodplain, but it is beautifully broken up by several small, rocky hillocks that offer panoramic views of the Brahmaputra River. The most famous of these is Agnigarh, a hill that has been developed into a picturesque park.

Another significant elevation is the Bamuni Hills, known for its ancient stone ruins. The city gradually slopes downwards toward the riverbanks, creating scenic waterfronts and flood plains. Because it lies in an active seismic zone (Zone V), the local topography is subject to the immense geological forces of the Himalayan region.
