Majuli is a lush, sprawling river island nestled in the Brahmaputra River in the northeastern Indian state of Assam. Recognized as the first island district in India, it is widely celebrated as the cultural capital of Assam. Majuli is the historic seat of Neo-Vaishnavite culture, an egalitarian and artistic religious movement founded in the 15th century by the revered Assamese saint and scholar, Srimanta Sankardeva.
Beyond its profound spiritual and cultural heritage, Majuli is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and traditional ways of life.
