Kaziranga experiences a humid subtropical climate, typically classified under the Köppen climate classification as *Cwa* (monsoon-influenced humid subtropical). The region is defined by three distinct seasons: a dry and mild winter, a hot and humid summer, and a torrential monsoon season.
* **Winter (November to February):** This is the best time to visit. Temperatures are pleasant, ranging from 5°C to 25°C (41°F to 77°F). The weather is dry, and the wetlands shrink, drawing wildlife out into the open. * **Summer (March to May):** Conditions become hot and humid, with temperatures occasionally peaking at around 37°C (98°F). The wind picks up, and the environment can become quite dusty before the rains arrive. * **Monsoon (June to October):** Kaziranga receives heavy rainfall, averaging 2,220 mm (87 inches) annually. During this time, the Brahmaputra frequently overflows, submerging up to three-quarters of the park. While these natural floods are disastrous for some wildlife and human settlements, they are ecologically vital for replenishing the wetlands and maintaining the grassy terrain.
